IP Communications: Motama Intros CodecCaster 900 HD, a Rack Mountable Server ApplianceJanuary 16, 2012
By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor
Motama, a provider of solutions for delivery processing and presentation of audio and video content in IP network, released the new CodecCaster 900 HD, a rack mountable server appliance that can be deployed for real-time transcoding of full HD IPTV (News The CodecCaster 900 HD can transcode MPEG-2 Video to AVC/H.264 for MPEG Transport Stream, AVC/H.264 to MPEG-2 Video, Single Program Transport Stream (SPTS) toSingle Program Transport Stream (SPTS), Video up- or downscaling and frame rate conversion and more. Some of the application areas of the CodecCaster are: real-time transcoding of IPTV streams up to HD resolution; bandwidth reduction for Internet transmission; bandwidth reduction for streaming in wireless networks; stream adaptation for set-top boxes, tablets, mobile phones; multi-bitrate and multi-screen transcoding for adaptive streaming; and more. The CodecCaster 900 is supposedly more powerful than its predecessor as it not only transcodes SD streams but also supports transcoding of HD streams. For example, AVC/H.264 streams in 720p or 1080i format. While upscaling, a single appliance is enough to transcode 9 SD streams and even more while downscaling. It means one additional stream at the same rack size of 1U and up to 30% less power consumption per stream than CodecCaster 800. Motama claimed that its IPTV solutions are streamlined and cost-effective, which allows for creating attractive business models by serving smaller local audiences with specific offers, as well as larger audiences distributed around the world. One specific feature of the CodecCaster 900 is that it can be easily integrated into existing infrastructure as it is compatible with available gateways, conditional access systems, streaming servers, and set-top boxes.
