West Corporation, a provider of technology-driven communications services, has rebranded its IP communications subsidiary as West IP Communications (WIPC).

The new name replaces Smoothstone (News - Alert), acquired by West in June 2011.

Officials with West Corporation said that West IP Communications, which is a part of West’s Unified Communications (News - Alert) business segment, is a leader in the design, configuration, management and support of next-generation unified communications applications and services.

Company officials said that it specializes in transitioning its clients to a cloud-based delivery model for voice services, network services, contact centers and collaboration.

“Aligning our IP communications business with the West name gives us a consistent voice and clarity in the marketplace,” said Todd Strubbe, president of West’s Unified Communications business segment, in a statement.

“Our vision for unified communications always begins with our clients, so we want to ensure they understand the full breadth of the West product portfolio upon which they can build their businesses,” said Strubbe.

“It’s easy to do business with West IP Communications, and we foresee a bright future, built on its sales strategy emphasizing expertise and solutions selling,” said Jim Suss, co-founder and president of LAM Technology, a partner of West IP Communications.

“We appreciate the emphasis on customer service and innovation that West delivers, and how that translates into sales for our organization,” said Suss.

Back in March, West Corporation announced the completion of its acquisition of HyperCube LLC.

HyperCube was founded in 2005 and is a premier provider of local and national tandem services in the middle mile to carriers throughout the United States. HyperCube leverages its proprietary customer traffic information system, sophisticated call routing and control facility to provide tandem interconnection services to the competitive marketplace, including wireless, wire-line, cable telephony and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) companies. With the closing of this transaction, West now operates a carrier grade communications network that attains CLEC certifications and capabilities nationwide. This acquisition will also allow direct connectivity of West's voice application and service platforms to the nation's largest carriers.
