By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor
Committed to developing infrastructure solutions that enable enterprise, service and content providers around the world to evolve communications networks through IP innovation, GENBAND (News - Alert) announced the availability of expanded and enhanced hardware options for its S3 Session border Controllers (SBC). According to B.G. Kumar, president, multimedia business unit at GENBAND, the additions to the S3 portfolio have positioned the company so that it can provide SBCs optimized to virtually any market need. While the new S3 1000 provides a cost effective solution that is ideal for smaller carriers and larger carriers with remote points of presence, the S3 2000 provides the required scalability. When combined with the S3 GENiUS platform, multiple, scalable applications can be delivered from the same chassis. Company officials also noted that the unique feature of every GENBAND S3 was that it has the same product features and functionalities, enabling consistency across the entire SBC line. In essence, S3 1000 and S3 2000 cost effectively address both smaller scale deployments and major high scale network demands with uniform management and optimized hardware. Miercom, an independent lab testing facility specializing in networking and communications product testing recently recognized S3 for “unmatched” scalability, performance and resiliency benchmarks. This, coupled with the wins at BT and Orange (News - Alert) Business Services clearly demonstrates the demand for GENBAND's intelligent and scalable platform. Thus, officials noted that vendors who can deliver on a range of SBC solutions with the right mix of features and scale to support multiple deployment configurations will be the ones who can maximize their total market opportunity In other industry news, West IP Communications (News - Alert), regarded as a service provider that has the potential for long term success, did well for itself by rising a notch higher on Infonetics (News - Alert) Research's 2011 North American Business VoIP Services Leadership Scorecard. In fact, the company nudged past Verizon to claim the second slot.
