Aicent, a provider of IP communications solutions, has joined the i3 Forum, a community of global operators and service providers dedicated to bringing advanced IP interconnectivity to the voice communications industry.

A provider of IP eXchange (IPX)-based mobile data network services for global mobile operators, Aicent brings to the i3 Forum extensive experience and expertise in IP communications and mobile network interconnectivity. The company brings customer insights to help develop service principles and standards that meet market requirements.

"We are very pleased to have Aicent join the i3 Forum as our 47th member. We look forward to their participation and contributions in helping the forum's community define a core set of recommendations in an effort to effectively expedite the migration to IP-based carrier interconnections on a global level," said Philippe Millet, chairman, i3 Forum, in a statement.

Aicent is an expert at GRX mobile data roaming exchange networks. The company has accumulated considerable knowledge in the design and implementation of IP-based QoS networks for a variety of mobile operator interconnections. The company’s experience will both complement and support the approach of the i3 Forum and their key objective to establish network based QoS for IP voice quality.

"Joining the i3 Forum presents an exciting opportunity for Aicent to collaborate with other industry leaders in an effort to help create the foundation and best practices for IPX voice services", said Shu Gan, vice president, Strategic Business Development for Aicent, in a statement.

“As a leading IPX provider, Aicent has been a long time supporting member to GSMA's (News - Alert) IPX initiatives and have recently launched an IPX voice service for mobile operators,” Gan added. “The i3 Forum will allow us to participate in another great platform to help accelerate the development and implementation of IP-based voice interconnectivity on a global scale.”

In another related announcement in the industry, AireSpring (News - Alert), a provider of SIP trunking solutions, announced it now offers the ability to provide both voice and data services on a single circuit. Considering that this represents savings of up to 50 percent over TDM solutions, it's a strong selling point for those businesses interested in saving money on their communications expenses.
