Bentley Walker Enhances Services in the Middle East

Bentley Walker is enhancing its satellite service offerings in Iraq and Afghanistan by investing in a Universal 15000 series hub from VT iDirect (News - Alert). Bentley Walker is one of the largest VSAT network operators in Europe, and VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect) is a company of VT Systems and a global specialist in satellite-based IP communications technology.

iDirect’s satellite-based IP communications technology enables constant connectivity for voice, video and data applications in any environment. The iDirect platform will enable Bentley Walker to provide communications solutions to a range of end users in the Middle East. The company is now well positioned to offer high-speed, low-cost, two-way data communications to its growing customer base in the region.

Bentley Walker's new hub will run on Avanti's Ka-band HYLAS 2 satellite, according to a release. Deploying 24 fixed beams and one steerable beam, HYLAS 2 provides customers with the flexibility to address current and future markets across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“With the consistently excellent and reliable technology of iDirect, as well as the new Ka-band capacity we're getting from HYLAS 2, we look forward to offering higher speed service packages on more affordable equipment with a smaller dish than previously possible with Ku service,” said Anthony Walker, CEO, Bentley Walker.

Bentley Walker intends to provide satellite capacity through multiple service models.

A managed service model offers end users a turnkey solution for installing and managing an iDirect network.

A Virtual Network Operator (VNO) model gives Bentley Walker partners the flexibility to manage their own services without the ownership commitment of a complete iDirect hub.

“We have worked with Bentley Walker for a long time, and are excited about the opportunity to partner with them again during this important period in the industry,” said Stephen Tunnicliffe regional vice president, Europe, iDirect.

iDirect was in news last month for expanding its portfolio with the introduction of new C-band services on the iDirect platform.
