Cisco (News - Alert) is expanding its software to push for collaboration between its users. The company announced the launch of a new messaging app called, Cisco Jabber. The company, who purchased Jabber almost four years ago, has finally integrated the technology adding IM, voice and video, voicemail, desktop sharing and conferencing to its users.
The app that will now be compatible with desktop and mobile devices enables users to seamlessly multitask and interact on the go. Cisco said the app would be available with almost every feature that has ever been offered on any other communications solution currently on the market.
This collaboration will allow users to “be more productive wherever you are, on whatever device you choose.” In Cisco’s official blog, Barry O’ Sullivan wrote about the importance of the new messaging service.
“In this post PC era, Cisco is taking another important step in advancing the collaborative workspace and making collaboration even more pervasive for customers around the world – regardless of device, application or operating system,” said O’Sullivan. “For customers, with this development, Cisco is now providing a way to simply and cost effectively make presence and IM available to all users…for partners, this helps simplify and accelerate the deployment of presence, IM and mobile collaboration as part of a holistic, best-in-class, collaboration solution.”
Customers with the latest version of the CUCM software will automatically be able to integrate the new Jabber IM client. The company plans to make this available to all of its 50 million active phone users. O’Sullivan said the company will continue to work on unified communications for its users.
“Cisco is committed to extending the reach of unified communications and collaboration, based on standards and for the benefits of everyone in the enterprise,” wrote O’Sullivan – who also asked for current Cisco users to send in comments regarding the new service to help Cisco continue to work on solutions for its customers.
